Despite our best efforts, our body tissues loose strength and our skin’s elasticity decreases over time. Gravity causes skin and tissue to descend lower in the face, resulting in an aged appearance.  We have bone and fat tissue volume loss.  Skin suffers from changes induced by UV-light. Aging of the face and neck is a complex process, and if rejuvenation is desired, requires both invasive and non-invasive procedures to restore them to a more youthful state.  Surgical procedures like facelifts and neck lifts help counteract sagging skin and restore youthfulness to facial features.

What to Know about Facelifts

A facelift is often performed with the goal of reducing sagging skin or folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline. It may also be used to change the shape of the face. When performing a facelift, a skin is elevated on each side of the face providing access to the deeper connective tissues, muscles and fat below.  This deep complex is elevated and then the skin is similarly vertically and posteriorly elevated, thereby altering and adjusting the contours of the face. Before the flap is sutured closed, excess skin is removed.

What to Know About Neck Lifts

Similar to a facelift, a neck lift removes excess skin and fat around the jawline to better define and restore a smoother look to the neck. Underlying muscles are also tightened and elevated.  It is often done in conjunction with facelifts, but can be done in isolation for some patients. With this cosmetic procedure, your neck muscles will be tightened to reduce any sagging that occurs beneath the chin.

How Do They Work Together?

As with any cosmetic surgery, results of from these two procedures vary depending on individual, their facial structure, age, their facial features, and the goals discussed with your surgeon beforehand. One patient may require more or less of a certain procedure than another, or they might require a completely different approach.

In cases where both procedures are done, results include:

  • The correction of sagging in the cheeks.
  • Elimination of sagging skin and excess fat in the neck.
  • Reduction in the fold of skin from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
  • Removal of excess skin at your lower jawline.

It is important to note that both procedures help restore youth to your face, but they do not stop the aging process.

This patient wanted to go through a facial rejuvenation procedure that would help restore youth to her appearance in a natural way. After having tried multiple techniques in my career, I’ve found that the most natural-looking and long-lasting results come from a deep plane face and neck lift.

Plastic surgery is not about changing who people are, but rather helping restore the appearance they long for! Mission accomplished for this patient.

Patient #2:

After considerable weight loss, this patient became more and more aware of facial and neck skin laxity and descent of her cheeks. By utilizing a deep plane face and neck lift we were able to eliminate her excess facial and neck skin, and also elevate and reposition multiple levels of her cheeks and jawline. This resulted in a natural-looking and gorgeous look!
